Abigail Kmet

Abstract

This review explores the book Are Your Prescriptions Killing you?  By Dr. Armon Neel, which discusses topics of over-prescribing in different patient populations. This book discusses topics such as polypharmacy and criticizes the “cookbook medicine” approach where doctors heavily rely on standard guidelines that are influenced by pharmaceutical companies. This review covers risk of commonly used drugs such as NSAIDs, and statins and emphasizes the importance of personalized care plans over one size fits all protocols. It also discusses the challenges in health care communication between multiple providers and pharmacists which can lead to drug interactions and duplicate therapy. Overall, the book encourages the advocacy of patient care through unbiased practices and the importance of prioritizing patient-centered care to improve outcomes and reduce drug related harm.
