A new model for improving rural population health in India

Satheesh Gottipati, M. Chandra Sekar

Abstract

In rural villages in India most healthcare is currently provided by Registered Medical Practitioner [RMP]. Only requirement for getting registered as RMP for these practitioners is that they have worked in a Doctor’s office for five years with no added academic requirement – result most of these practitioners are not even high school graduates. In this article, we profile Naveen Valluru, recent PharmD graduate from Vignan Pharmacy College, who has opened a health clinic in his village of Namburu near Guntur.
